Emery Bird Thayer Building (EBT)
1601 Walnut, Kansas City, Missouri
Completed October 2000 is this historic loft renovation from the early 1900's warehouse facility for the former Emery Bird Thayer department store.
The 6 story 120,000+ sq.
ft. building located at 16th & Walnut in Kansas City also housed this venerable store's stable for it's fleet of horse drawn delivery wagons.
Construction included the conversion of the concrete and heavy timber / wood frame to 102 apartment units with amenities including a full fitness area, sauna & spas and a common area club room off the new two story lobby. The massive floor plate sizes and the building's impressive statement on the surrounding neighborhood make this a landmark project.
This complete renovation, meeting the standards for historic work for state and federal tax credits, included replacement of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire and life safety systems. Also included was the installation of twin elevators in new shafts cut up through the center core of the building.
